Discussing a Master’s Thesis at the Faculty of Education entitled “The Reality of Islamic Symbols in the Productions of Fine Arts Students in the Subject of Graphic”
Faculty of Education/ Information Section … A master’s thesis, by Zahraa Abdulmunaem al-Shimaysawi, entitled “The Reality of Islamic Symbols in the Productions of Fine Arts Students in the Subject of Graphic” has been discussed in the late Prof. Dr Basim Baqir Jrew’s Hall at the Faculty of Education/ University of Kufa. It included three sections. The first discussed the symbol, its birth, the views of philosophers and the most important symbols in the Jewish and Christian religions. The second dealt with the Islamic Art, its main features, elements of Arab and Islamic architecture and the art of Islamic decoration of all kinds. The third handled the definition of the art of graphic, its history in brief and the techniques, elements and fundamentals of graphic design. The study arrived at a number of results, notably the failure of Islamic symbols to achieve the highest percentage in the research population and the diversity of religious beliefs in the society and the many wars that the country has undergone leading to the dispersal of students’ minds and the different environment resulting in not using Islamic symbols in the graphic art works as well as the achievement of Arabic calligraphy in its various types a high percentage in the graphic works which were represented by Quranic verses and words of God, the Almighty, and the embodiment of graphic work of the interaction between the pictorial icon and the Arabic calligraphy reflecting the idea of the work and student’s spiritual connection.
