Honouring Calligraphers

The Faculty of Education at Kufa University holds an honoring ceremony of pioneering calligraphers in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Province
    Faculty of Education/ Information Section … Within the activities of 1440 AH celebration, the year of the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) and in the presence of the rector of the University of Kufa, Prof. Dr Muhsin al-Dhalimi, and the mayor of Al-Najaf, Mr Luay al-Yasiri and a number of official, religious and academic personalities, the Faculty of Education has held an honoring ceremony of a group of pioneering calligraphers in Najaf, Mr Kareem al-Rewwaf, Jasim al-Najafi, Abdulamir al-Najafi, Sadiq al-Hussaini, Ali al-Hassani and others. In his speech, al-Dhalimi mentioned that the celebration of calligraphers occurs to strengthen the relationship between the University of Kufa and the surrounding community, because serving society is a cornerstone of the university’s tasks. Prof. Dr Ali Khdhayir Hejji, the dean of the faculty, said it is a feat that the faculty is hosting this gathering which brings together the civil administration in al-Najaf, the presidency of Kufa University, religious authority, academics, calligraphers and representatives of the holy shrines in Najaf, stressing that the celebration happens due to the directives of the university to honour a constellation of calligraphers who contributed to the history and civilization of al-Najaf, in the holy shrines, religious schools, mosques and compilations. Al-Hejji confirmed that the faculty is going to organize a major scientific conference on the Arabic calligraphy dealing with Ibn Muqla, Ibn al-Bewab, Yaqoot al-Mustaasimi and Jasim al-Najafi who designed the emblem of the University of Kufa.
